WIND ENERGY APPLIED FOR FULL TEMPORARY PLANNING PERMISSION TO SITE SIX 50M HIGH (165 FEET) ANEMOMETER TOWERS TO MEASURE WINDS AS A PRECURSOR TO A FULL WIND FACTORY APPLICATION.

IN MAY 2004 ONE WAS WITHDRAWN BECAUSE IT WAS TOO CLOSE TO A GOLDEN EAGLE'S EYRIE.

ON JUNE 21ST 2004, THE HIGHLAND COUNCIL PLANNING COMMITTEE, MEETING IN FORT WILLIAM, TURNED DOWN ALL BUT ONE OF THE REMAINING FIVE ANEMOMETER APPLICATIONS BY A VOTE OF 5 TO 2.

THE ALLOWED ANEMOMETER, IN GLEN SANDA, GOES INTO THE LARGEST SUPERQUARRY IN EUROPE, ALREADY DEVASTATED BY STONE EXTRACTION AND MADE WORSE BY ROADS MADE FOR A RECENT HYDRO-ELECTRIC SCHEME.
